(New) Spanish Fort UMC Grief Share - November 2017 - GriefShare Support Group – Spanish Fort UMC and the Community in the past year has endured some devastating loses. Heading into the holidays proves to be an even more difficult time for those grieving a loss of a spouse, child, family member or friend. GriefShare is a network of thousands of grief recovery support groups meeting around the world. GriefShare is a program with direction and purpose. With GriefShare you will learn how to talk the journey of grief and be supported on the way. It is a place where grieving people find healing and hope in a Christian context. As a service to our church family and community we are offering a short term group for grief support. This group will meet on Tuesday evenings at Spanish Fort UMC in WD 101 on the West Campus (by Piggly Wiggly) from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. beginning November 28th and will last for 13 weeks. This group will be facilitated by Rev. Dr. Jim White, a clinically trained pastoral counselor with many years of counseling experience and a doctorate in pastoral psychotherapy. There is no charge for the class or materials.

(New) ChoRuss Returns to Gulf Shores UMC - Returning to the US for their second annual tour, ChoRuss, a quartet of professional conservatory-trained Russian singers will be in concert at the Gulf Shores United Methodist Church sanctuary on Sunday evening, November 19, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. There is no charge for the concert, however a love offering will be taken during the concert. Reserved seating will be available for GSUMC concert season supporters. GSUMC Worship Arts Director Cody Johnson noted that the ChoRuss repertoire spans a wide variety of music, including traditional Russian Orthodox Christian melodies as well as Christmas songs and folk music. "If you enjoyed them last year or if you missed the concert, this is your opportunity to hear some exceptional musicians from another part of our world", he said. ChoRuss was founded in April 2012 and has toured Germany, France, Switzerland, the United Kingdom as well as the US. Their artistic director, Dmitry Petrov, has worked at St. Petersburg Chapel with several outstanding Russian conductors and is also involved with both opera and the ballet theater at St. Petersburg Conservatory. Special Christmas Music Opportunity at Gulf Shores UMC - Popular church anthem composer/arranger Mark Hayes Will be at Gulf Shores United Methodist Church December 9 & 10, 2017 where he will direct an all-day rehearsal/workshop on Saturday, December 9, 2017 as well as conduct the Chancel Choir's annual Christmas concert in a program of all Mark Hayes music on Sunday, December 10, 2017. There are several opportunities for area singers to participate. For those who wish to join the choir for this event, rehearsals on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 are beginning now, along with additional rehearsals scheduled on some Fridays and Saturdays. The Saturday rehearsal/workshop on December 9, 2017 will include time to visit with Mark Hayes as well as listen to him coach and direct the choir. Lunch will be available along with new choral anthems, sheet music and CDs available for purchase. A visit to www.MarkHayes.com lists several upcoming visits to Carnegie Hall in New York City along with other churches throughout the country. "We are very fortunate", said Cody Johnson, Director of Worship Arts for GSUMC, "that a musician of Mark Hayes caliber will be working with us.
