MEMO FROM THE DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT’S DESK:
(New) Foley UMC will host ecumenical Lenten Services on Thursday from February 15 through March 22 this year. There will be a simple lunch served at 11:30 (donation $5.00) served in the Spirit Center at 915 N Pine Street, Foley. Beginning at 11:30 noon a short service including greetings, music and devotional thoughts brought from ministers of six different local churches. Rev. Dr. Nolan Donald will welcome and lead each service. The topics of the messages, this year will be taken from Colossians 3. On February 15, a message of Compassion will be brought by the Rev. Paul Zoghby of St Margaret’s Catholic Church. On February 22, Pastor Michael Bonham of Peace Lutheran Church will deliver the message on Gentleness. March 1, a message of Humility will be given by Rev. Dr. Darren Mc Clellan, District Superintendent of the United Methodist Church’s Baypines District. On March 8, Pastor Elwanda Powel of Words Alive Ministries of Robertsdale will speak on Kindness. Rev. Ben Ragsdale of City Hope, Foley will bring a message of Patients on March 15. The final Lenten message will be delivered by Pastor Bennie Richardson of Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church, Foley. These programs are configured to last an hour to enable a working person to come for lunch, enjoy the service, and return to work within an hour.
It is hoped that at the end of the season, over 24 churches in our community will have participated. Special music, prayers and lunches will be presented by lay people from 18 churches. We invite you to gather with us on each of these Thursdays to enjoy a light lunch, a satisfying spiritual experience, and fellowship with other Christians who are using this time to prepare their hearts for Holy Week.
(New) Small Membership Church Summit at Blue Lake Camp, Andalusia, AL on Friday, March 2, 2:00 P.M. - Saturday, March 3, 3:00 P.M.
This summit is an opportunity for members of small membership churches (membership under 200) to come together and learn from each other and a few specialists about topics that are relevant for small churches. Open to all lay and clergy.
The schedule will include times of worship and communion, several break-out sessions, fellowship, and round-table discussion.
Breakout sessions will include these topics:
• Children and youth in the church
• Mission and outreach in the small church
• Music and arts
• Cooperative ministry
Rates include room, meals, and other fees; rates listed per person

• Linwood wing- double: $75

Gulf Shores UMC Upcoming Concerts:
- THE SANDSPUR BAND will perform on February 8, 2018 -The well-known and loved bluegrass/gospel group will be in concert on Thursday February 8, 2018 at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary of Gulf Shores UMC. Tickets at $10 pp are available weekdays from 9am to noon in Thee Coffee Shop in the Winn Dixie Plaza and also at the door preceding the concert. - (New) MEMORABLE ELVIS SONGS BY SHANE TUCKER LIVE on February 12, 2018 -Elvis tribute artist Shane Tucker of Foley will be featured along with the Promised Land Band in a live performance at the Gulf Shores United Methodist Church south campus auditorium at 7:00pm on Monday, February 12, 2018. Tickets at $15 pp are available at Thee Coffee Shop adjacent to the auditorium from 9am to noon Monday through Friday.
- (New) SACRED SOUNDS WITH ORGANISTS JACKIE DAHLMAN AND THOMAS HELMS will perform on February 18, 2018 -The annual Sacred Sounds organ concert will be held Sunday, February 18, 2018 at 6:30pm in the sanctuary of Gulf Shores UMC. Tickets at $5 pp are available weekdays 9:00 am to noon in Thee Coffee Shop at the GSUMC south plaza campus in the Winn Dixie Plaza. Reserved seating is available for concert season supporters.

Summerdale United Methodist Church is seeking a part time pianist The Pianist would accompany congregational singing during Sunday worship service 10:30-11:30, play for special music as needed, and be available for all special services such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, etc. Pianist will be expected to sight read and select and play the prelude, postlude, and offertory. The Family Ministries Director will assist the pastor in providing vision and oversight for ministry to children, youth, and parents at Robertsdale UMC with a part-time focus on the execution of our youth ministry. Responsibilities include immediate supervision to the Preschool Director and Children’s Director to provide support, accountability, and an integration of our ministries to children, youth, and families; recruiting and equipping volunteers to work with children and youth; and overseeing and leading the youth ministry program. The ideal candidate must have a mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, good public speaking skills, a team player mentality, the ability to work with minimal supervision, strong organizational skills, the ability to communicate effectively with persons of differing backgrounds, and experience working with youth and families. A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Christian Formation, Christian Education, Youth Ministry, or field related to family ministry as well as a background in the United Methodist Church are preferable.
